The painting was commissioned in 1995 by a US-Russia based company to commemorate the historic meeting of the Russian and American armies at Torgau, Germany in 1945. The painting ,by Anne Burgess Rowe, is based on a Life Magazine photo of Lt. Alexander Sylvashko and Lt. Bill Robertson. The original painting was intended as a gift to the Russian people from the American people and presently hangs in the World War II Museum in Moscow, dedicated in 1995 in the presence of President Bill Clinton.
